Wise beyond their years and aggressively handsome, these two overachievers are focused on success… Never before has the world seen two furry browed individuals such as these two (seriously they have really bushy eye brows)… As you might have imagined Alex and Drew did not meet on the set of their Vogue Cover shoot while surrounded by super models, but rather somewhere else. Apart from Social Darwinism, the thing that separates these two men from the rest is their unsettling and uncanny ability to discover and create trends. Apart from their unique personalities and boyish good looks, they have many similarities. They each graduated from prestigious North-Eastern Universities, they like hot chicks in yoga pants, enjoy a good burger, and have been rejected from many of the venues they now play at. The Chainsmokers have become the hottest young American EDM DJ duo. Their wild antics, hilarious personalities, and addicting productions have fans interacting with them non stop and running to see them live every chance they get. Their signature sound has its foundations in Indie, Progressive and Pop Music. On the production front, their original tracks have all reached the Beatport top charts and their remixes always hit #1 on the HypeM charts. They’ve gotten immense support by friends such as Nicky Romero, Steve Aoki, Pete Tong, Afrojack, Tiesto, W&W, and more. We got a chance to run some Grade A Q&A with Alex and Drew.
GA: I understand you guys are fairly carnivorous, where do you go for your beef?
TCS: El Parador for the Fajitas, but any decent Steak house will do… We just love burgers and stuff, Drew will pretend he hates it, but our diet is like 5% salad….
TCS: Drew thought he would be something like a Mark Cuban. Alex thought he would be an Art Dealer.
GA: How do your parents feel about your career paths and your music?
TCS: They are both very supportive. It was a little hard at first for them to understand how this could become a viable career but they were and continue to be there for us. As of late they have sorta got the picture….
GA: When did you first know that this was your calling? Can you describe that very moment?
TCS: The Aha moment… you know there wasn’t really one, we both sorta went with the flow, and you know took steps in different directions that weren’t always music, but envitably it led us here. Life is sorta funny in that way. But you know when you can pay your bills, do what you love and dictate how your day goes, you sorta realize youre onto something special.
GA: What do you aspire to accomplish when remixing a song? What do you look for in a song to remix it.
TCS: Well we always want to maintain the integrity of the original but breathe a new sort of life into it. Obviously we are associated with dance music so generally it’s a little more upbeat but not necessarily jubilant. A remix by definition is supposed to change the essense of a song but we are very careful about which direction we want to take it and to us that is generally dictated by the vocal.
GA: What is your most accomplished moment?
TCS: Hitting #1 on Billboard Dance… and just you know working our asses off and seeing progress. Not to be cheesy but every day to keep moving forward is a great feeling and not easy.
TCS: Go Home guys, Youre drunk…
GA: You guys are on the road a lot, can you describe your eat sleep and work habits?
TCS: So we eat the worst food, drink too much, work out too little, sleep way too little, party way too much, work between things, like there is no free time, that’s work time, squeeze naps, jerk off, shower, but not usually…
GA: What is one of your craziest set moments?
TCS: So far TomorrowWorld, that was just a perfect day… People woke up to come see us play, the sun was high, the air was so fresh and it was just like we are starting your day, welcome to The Chainsmokers, it was very cool…
GA: What is your craziest fan moment?
TCS: A girl got #Selfie tatted on the inside of her lip… like what…
GA: You guys are together a lot, do you ever get on each other’s nerves? How has your relationship grown?
TCS: You know we are pretty chill about it all, we respect each others space and know when to shut the fuck up, the only time we get nervy is when things aren’t going right and sometimes when we DJ we bust each others chops but its all fun. We get what this si about and what its going to take and respect each others private lives but also are very involved. We have come to fists once, it was hysterical and there are photos to prove it…
GA: Any pranksters in the house?
TCS: Alex is probably the bigger prankster, but we try to keep the pranks between each other to a minimum… we have enough shit to worry about then to stuff dildos in each other suit cases wrapped in tinfoil and send it through security…
GA: Sound kind of specific… So, when you retire, what will be your title?
Gettting knighted would be cool… Like a sir or something…
GA: Whom or what would you most like to work with?
Bastille Dan or Katy Perry/Adam Levine
GA: Is there anything that we should be on the look out for in the near future?
Yes! more world domination, we have some awesome new music coming, that isn’t #SELFIE but we are going to ease people away from that slowly
